24 stories: a look back at 2020
In 2018 I ran three installments of the 24 Hour Portrait Project - a project where I took a photo an hour for 24 hours (and in September, across two days). I wanted to run this project again, but with some tweaks - and a look back at 2020, a year that really changed so much for so many of us.
Theme: Tell me a story about what 2020 was like for you.
This installment of the project, renamed 24 Stories, will tell 24 individual stories over the course of 1 week June 13-19 2021 in Chilliwack, B.C. All the stories will be focused around 2020 - how we coped, what we experienced, how we thrived, rested, grew, survived. My hope is that in this time when so many of us feel isolated, we can come together, collaborate by making art, and reflect on the shared experience of this pandemic. I want to hear your story. If you’ve participated in the project before and want to apply, please do.
How it works: Once you’ve been chosen for the project, we will sort out the details of your unique portrait taken outdoors & no to minimal contact. **Following current health orders. I’ll send you interview questions prior to the start for you to answer, but, please know that there are many ways to tell your story and I’m here to help you - accessibility & support is key & I’m happy to talk options with you.
Payment: In order to keep this project accessible, I’ve opened up a Patreon to help cover costs of this. There is no cost to participate. If you’d like to help support the project, please consider becoming a Patron!
In order to participate, you will need to sign (or have a Parent/Guardian sign) a model release allowing your image to be used/published, as well as agree to follow the Covid Safety Plan put in place for the duration of the project.
All stories are good stories - the final 24 stories will be chosen based on cohesion & diverse representation, but any that aren’t included in this round will be looked at again for future rounds. Please note that our June date could change based on health orders.
This project is currently closed, you can find images and stories from it at www.instagram.com/sarahsovereign/ - follow along for when new installments of 24 Stories will run!
